The Greenfield Berry Farm is part of the Countryside Initiative program in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which leases parkland to farmers committed to sustainable agriculture and stewardship 2. Farmers Daniel and Michele Greenfield, motivated by a love of nature and sustainable agriculture, submitted a proposal for a pick‑your‑own berry farm and leased a 20‑acre parcel that includes a historic farmhouse and barn 3.
Daniel—an environmental educator with a PhD in environmental education—was drawn to farming for the personal satisfaction of communing with nature 4. Because land near Cleveland and Akron is expensive, the Countryside Initiative provided an affordable way for the Greenfields to farm close to home 5.
Experience the Farm
Visitors can enjoy picking their own berries—including blueberries, aronia berries and sunflowers—and can purchase fresh produce through our vegetable CSA program 1. We also offer pussy willows, tulips, honey and other farm products 1.
Our 20‑acre farmstead includes a historic farmhouse and barn 3. As an environmental educator, farmer Daniel Greenfield leads farm‑based tours and educational field trips for schools and community groups 1.
Attractions & Surroundings
The farm is located in the heart of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and is surrounded by 33,000 acres of protected land 6. The valley’s landscapes have been shaped by natural processes and human farming for thousands of years, and today the national park’s farming program invites farmers to live and farm on park‑owned properties using sustainable methods 7.
Our location at 2485 Major Road, on the outskirts of the village of Peninsula, makes it easy to explore nearby trails, waterfalls and historic sites before or after your visit 8.
